Microsoft’s Plot Twist
Hi Blog & All,
I never thought I would say this, But I am impressed by Microsoft.. Not only have they integrated php into .NET, but now they are developing IE9 to be Full XML/HTML5/CSS3/DOM3/SVG capable.
From the IE9 preview tests, and the specs testing(in conjunction with W3c) this version of IE actually out-performs its competition. Actually blowing FF/SF/Webkit in the Dust….
Windows server 2008 actually has pulled ahead in the server race.. They support PHP 5 that runs faster than Tux Servers… BenchMarks
3 years ago I was dogging Windows, and I actually hated their software. The only thing I could tolerate was Office 2007. This was mostly due to the fact that I purchased a laptop that was a 64bit system and it had 32-bit vista on it..
This was very confusing to me, until I found out that none of the devices or software work with Windows 64bit. It seemed like Linux had fully become more acceptable for desktop because it too had a few bugs with devices. For once though Windows caused me more problems with my devices than the same hardware booted in Linux.
With Opensuse 10 the only device that needed extra special attention was the broadcom integrated wireless. There was tons of resources though to having the wireless & bluetooth working properly.
Linux may have come a long ways for the desktop environment, But I am a web developer. I have watched Microsoft with (IIS7/Windows 2008/Powershell/Silverlight/ & Now IE9) make HUGE progress in security, inovation, and an overall contribution to the internet.
I don’t think I would spend my time anymore worry about what’s better.. Windows, and Linux are cross-over vehicles. They both have strengths and weaknesses, but I am rooting for both now. As they mature they both are gaining strengths and loosing weaknesses.
The web is still a work in progress along with the desktop experience, and server utilization. I am still learning as things change. Soon I will be learning all the new wonderfulness of HTML5/CSS3.
I will probably never be done learning how to do my job, because the internet will never be done evolving. I just wanted to write a blog in support on Microsoft. I have not always been so kind about my views on Windows, but we all have our own preferences.
Those are just my Bits,
Rob
