Google Search Ranking Consideration

Hi Blog & All,

I have covered Web Of Trust, and I was continuing the security blogging kick. Over the past year I have really become familiar with the tools that Google provides for Webmasters. What I have learned through working with Google analytics, and Webmaster’s Tools is that page load speeds are king. I also stumbled upon  a study that found speed optimization was the most important design factor with customization ranking least important.

Lightening fast pages are no longer just for convenience, and appeal. Page load speeds are now being used for Google Search Rankings.

Its Official: Google Now Counts Site Speed As A Ranking Factor

Having reports generated from plugins like Yslow, and Page Speed By Google helps the optimization process.

Google is also checking sites for malware. This is very helpful to keeping everyone’s information safe. The web has become a breeding ground for cheap methods of stealing your information. Web Of Trust, and Google are both contributing to a safer and more reliable internet.

I had a site that hadn’t been touched in about 2.5 years. It was due to the project being complete, and not really requiring any further attention. It was injected with some bad code, and the way that the client and I found out was a Warning sign that Google had placed on the search results. Another thing that I had noticed was that with Firefox there was a warning page that warned the user of the fact that the site hosted malware.

As soon as I saw this warning, I went back to look at the code for the website. Sure enough I saw a bad block of links to advertising pages, and other rediculous off topic garbage. It was a relief to know that I had some signs of that occuring, and that the audience for my client’s site had been warned as well.

After about an hour  after fixing the code and submitting the changes to google the site was back to normal. There were no warning flags on the search results, and the issue was resolved. Google was so easy to work with, and they provide enormous amounts of resources about their policies. It’s comforting to know that there is something in check to keep some off the internet’s diseases from getting out of control.

Google search rankings are more efficient with out the malware, and slow sites. I am glad these two factors are taken into consideration. When I am surfing the web it is my goal to stay clear of marketing ploys, and ficticous schemes. Another importance to me is having my personal information stay as confidential as possible.

Websites that are fast, and free of malware aren’t always going to provide you with good information. But I can tell you that most of the malware, and data mining websites lack the type of quality that nutured business websites have. Websites that have been programmed well, and that adhere to current standards should be ranking higher on search results. Thanks Google.
